THE CANDIDATES OF 2009

Tatiana Chernichka (Russia)

Born in 1984, a student of Eliso Virsaladze. Having won various international piano competitions, she has performed at major festivals such as „Armonie sotto la Rocca“ in Manerba sul Garda, “Music Kremlin“ in Moscow and the „Braunschweiger Kammermusic Podium“ in Germany.


Regina Chernychko (Ukraine)

Born in 1986, she is currently studying with Olga Rissin-Morenova. In 2008, she won first prize both at the International Piano Competition in Zurich and in Milan, following which she embarked on a concert tour under the direction of Howard Griffiths.


Gesualdo Coggi (Italy)

Born in 1985, a student of Roberto Cappello. He has already given numerous concerts in Italy and Europe. In 2007, he successfully completed his BSc in physics at La Sapienza University in Rome.


Lorenzo Cossi (Italy)

Born in 1982, a student of Giuliana Gulli and Nino Gardi. In September 2006, he won third prize at the International Piano Competition „Rina Sala Gallo“ in Monza. Subsequently, he won third prize at „G. Pecar“ in Gorizia and was runner up at „E. Pozzoli“ Competition in Seregno and „A. Casagrande“ Competition in Terni.


Christopher Devine (England)

Born in 1982, a student of Stefan Vladar in Vienna. Besides giving piano concerts in various cities around the world, he is also a known composer and chamber musician.


Christopher Falzone (USA)

Born 1985, a student of Claude Frank, Leon Fleisher and Gary Graffman. Winner of the Enescu Prize and third at the Georg Enescu International Competition in Rumania. He also won the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award, which is designed to single out the most promising of the new generation of pianists in the United States.


Giuseppe Gullotta (Italy)

Born in 1981, a student of Sergio Perticaroli. Winner of numerous international piano competitions, such as the Rachmaninoff Competition in 2005, the Mendelssohn Cup in 2005, and the Competition of Sulmona in 2004. He was a Busoni finalist in 2007. He has played at prestigious concert halls in Europe and with major orchestras.


Yifan Hu (China)

Born in 1991, a student of Mi-Kyung Kim. 2nd Prize at the Morocco Royal International Piano Competition in 2004. Since 2007, he studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover.


Da Sul Jung (South Korea)

Born in 1986, a student of Matti Raekallio. She started playing the piano at 4 and at the age of 9 she was already giving concerts in Japan and Korea. Since 2005, she studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover.


Viviana Pia Lasaracina (Italy)

Born in 1988, a student of Benedetto Lupo. Winner of various national and international piano competitions and of prestigious scholarships reserved for the best pianists of national conservatories. In 2006, she debuted at Verdi Hall at the Conservatory of Milan for the Societa‘ dei Concerti.


Alexey Lebedev (Russia)

Born in 1980, a student of Matti Raekallio and Mi-Kyung Kim. He can boast an extensive series of solo recitals and concerts with chamber music ensembles and orchestras in Spain, Italy, France, Holland, Germany and Russia. Winner of numerous awards in various international piano competitions (1st prize at the International Competition Ile de France in Paris in 2007)


Sun Ho Lee (South Korea)

Born in 1988, a student of Vladimir Krainev. He was awarded a prize at the Shenzhen International Piano Competition in 2006 and was the youngest semi finalist at the Maria Callas International Piano Competition in Greece in 2008.
2008 he won the second prize and the special prize for the youngest finalist of the "Porto International Piano Competition" in Portugal.


Michail Lifits (Germany)

Born in 1982, he is currently studying with Boris Petrushansky and Bernd Goetzke. At the age of 9 he started a series of performances throughout Europe. He has won various prizes at international piano competitions, such as 1st prize at the International Competition „Rina Sala Gallo“ in Monza in 2005.


Daniele Rinaldo (Italy)

Born in 1984, a student of Sergio Perticaroli, Claudio Martinez-Mehner and Federico Gianello. He has won various prizes at national and international competitions. He has performed with major orchestras, such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bacau, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nacional de l’Ecuador, and the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto. In 2006, he graduated from the University of Padova with a degree in mathematics and economics, obtaining the distinction summa cum laude.


Arisa Sakai (Japan)

Born in 1989, a student of Jean Marie Cottet and Jacques Rouvier. 2nd Prize at the 22nd International Piano Competition in Marsala in 2006, and 3rd prize at the Concurso de Piano Rotaract-Rotary in Spain in 2008. She has performed in Canada, Japan, France, Poland, China and Italy.


Scipione Sangiovanni (Italy)

Born in 1987, a student of Ippazio Ponzetta and Vincenzo Balzani. He won the 23rd “Città di Marsala” Competition. He has performed at the “Miami International Piano Festival” in Lecce, at the Serate Musicali in Milan, and for the Associazione Carducci in Como.


Oxana Shevchenko (Kazakhstan)

Born in 1987, a student of Elena Kuznetsova. 3rd prize at the Sendai International Piano Competition in 2007. She has performed with various orchestras, in solo recitals and chamber music ensembles in Russia, Syria, Lithuania, Hungary and Japan.


Olga Stezhko (Belarus)

Born in 1985, a student of Ian Fountain. She has won numerous awards at international piano competitions, such as 1st prize at the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition (USA) in 2007, and she has performed at prestigious concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York.


Bruno Vlahek (Croatia)

Born in 1986, a student of Jean-François Antonioli and Vassily Lobanov. Since 1997, he has won numerous prizes at international competitions, including 1st prize at the XIV International Piano Competition Ricard Viñes in Lleida in 2008. Since 2004, he has been pursuing a parallel career as a composer, an activity that has won him the prize of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.


Mimi Jue Wang (China)

Born in 1986, she is currently studying with Bernd Goetzke. Winner of the 6th International Competition for Young Pianists dedicated to the memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Kiew in 2005. In 2007 and 2008 she performed in numerous concerts in prestigious concert halls in Germany.


Jae Yeon Won (South Korea)

Born in 1988, a student of Choong-Mo Kang. Winner of various prizes at national competitions. Since 2005, he performs regularly at the Euro Music Festival in Leipzig.


Jie Yuan (China)

Born in 1985, a student of Li Xiao. Gold Medallist at the 8th Crescendo International Music Award. Silver at the 4th Shanghai International Piano Competition. Semi finalist and Jury prize winner at the 25th Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. He has performed in solo recitals and with orchestras throughout the world.
