THE GREETING FROM THE PRESIDENT
of the Foundation International Piano Competition "F. Busoni"

To speak or write of the Busoni contest, for a native of Bolzano, is as exciting as telling the story of one's own life to one's children or grandchildren. The Contest and the city of Bolzano have bonded irreversibly, perhaps even more so than Busoni did with his own native city.The Conservatory of Bolzano, the founders of the Contest and the city of Bolzano set the stage for this adventure; this provincial city, so close to the borders, has wagered her independence, in the post-war period, on culture and music and continues to do so, striving for greatness on the strengths of her bilingual population and of the two cultures that meet here. The Busoni Contest is born of this world; its aim is to discover young pianists, within the natural and ideal surroundings of the prestigious Monteverdi Conservatory.
The contest was begun more than fifty years ago and it would not be easy to find another competition with so many editions or which can boast of having discovered so many now world-famous pianists, who began their career in Bolzano. The Busoni Contest has traditionally been and will always be careful to showcase the real stars of the Contest: the members of the jury and the pianists.
The first, because of their authoritative knowledge; the latter, because of their talent, preparation and will to compete; both will meet in the end, when the jury will assign one of the pianists the coveted first prize. We are committed to strengthening and enhancing the cultural tradition of the "Ferruccio Busoni" International Piano Contest, which is part of the city of Bolzano.
